Jakiya Sultana Joya

Chemistry

Position: PhD Student in Chemistry, UConn

Research Interests: Graphene-polymer composite membranes, Interfacial polymerization, Graphene-based conductive materials, polymer synthesis and characterization

Current Research: I am currently working on developing graphene-based polymer composite membranes using the Interfacial Initiated Free Radical Polymerization (IIFRP) method. I synthesize anion exchange membranes by exfoliating graphite at water-oil interfaces and polymerizing acrylic acid with an oil-soluble cross-linker. My goal is to optimize membrane integrity, reduce wrinkle formation, and enhance conductivity for applications in electrochemical devices, filtration, and energy storage.

Instrumentation expertise: GPC, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, SEM, DSC, TGA, XRD

Education:

  • PhD in Chemistry, University of Connecticut, Expected 2027.
  • MS in Applied Chemistry, University of Dhaka, 2020-2021
